Auspicious Dates – Month of the Black Water Tiger

February is the Tiger month and marks the beginning of Spring (February 4th this year) and the Solar New Year. Two different calendars are observed by the Chinese: one based on the earth’s movement around the sun (solar) and the other is linked to phases of the moon (lunar.) Both use the five elements and the twelve astrological animal signs to mark the hours, days, months and years, but they begin at different times.

The Solar New Year, based on the agricultural or farmer’s (Hsia) calendar, marks the hours, days and minutes it takes Earth to complete one circle around the sun. This is known traditionally as the first day of spring when insects and animals stir, soil softens and the planting season begins. We use this date for calculating a person’s Bazi astrology, Flying Star Feng Shui and Qi Men Dun Jia predictions.

In Chinese astrology, the Tiger is the Wood element. He contains mainly yang wood with some yang fire and yang earth. Yang Wood stands for the oak tree, the leader or decision-maker. This year the Yang Water element is highlighted and is characterized as the “Tiger who is crossing the river.” The Tiger is associated with Yang (masculine, active) energy. Tigers do things their own way and hate being told what to do. Expect things to rapidly change this year. Sudden disruptions in career, romance and home life should be expected. Some of us will thrive through taking great leaps, while others might crash and burn. While it’s important to follow our intuition and run with our wildest dreams, that means we also have to keep our egos in check. The Year of the Rat (2020) was about survival, and the Year of the Ox (2021) was about anchoring ourselves in a new reality. The Year of the Tiger will be about making big changes. This will be a year of risk-taking and adventure – and – it’s a water tiger month in a water tiger year!!

February, every year, has the fewest auspicious dates. There are only five this year. A member asked if I could give the best times for the auspicious dates also, so will be including the best two hour time period of the day this year. The time is local time.
